Red Dwarf is a Star in My Night Sky

Today I was thinking about one of my favorite shows of all time, Red Dwarf.  Here's a couple of videos showing some of the best this show has to offer.  And if you've should never seen it, trust me, you're missing out.

I can never get enough of this stuff.

Apollo 11-A Piece of History

Have any of you ever thought it would be cool to look at the rocket engines that blasted Apollo 11 into space? It was, after all, the historic mission that culminated in man setting foot on the moon for the first time.  And anything powerful enough to put a Saturn V into orbit is pretty darn impressive.

Well, you may get the chance to see such a thing.  The founder of Amazon.com Jeff Bezos located the five engines 14,000 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean and plans to retrieve at least one of them.

I hope the effort succeeds, because that's something I'd like to see.  After that I'd like to see us land on the moon again and send people to Mars, but I'm not holding my breath for that one.

Live Long and Prosper, Mr. Spock

Happy birthday Leonard Nimoy!  Mr. Spock is 81 years old.  Hopefully being Vulcan, he'll have another hundred years or so ahead of him!

Isn't it eerie that he and William Shatner are so close in age?  It's like Kirk and Spock were always destined to serve together.

81 Years of Shat

Happy birthday William Shatner!

And for any of you who have been living under a rock and don't know who he is, well, I suggest you do some research pronto.  Captain Kirk deserves the utmost respect.  Not just anyone can steal the Enterprise and end up getting what he wants out of the deal.

Sir, we salute you.

Neil deGrasse Tyson Inspires Me

Okay, I've always been into this stuff, but when I hear him speak about space and our need to explore further, I get excited all over again.  Now, yes, he played a role in Pluto's demotion.  To learn more about that, watch The Pluto Files.  Yet, as much as I love Pluto, I've come to forgive him for that.  Pluto may no longer be considered a planet, but it's still cool.

Now, I found these videos inspiring, so I figured I'd share them.  After watching these, I can't help but feel that exploring the universe is an inextricable part of who we are.

I'm still dreaming. Hopefully you are too.

An Unconventional Space Shuttle Launch

It seems the fabulous fad of sending unconventional objects into space continues.  Apparently the space shuttle needed to cross into space one final time.  Not every lego set travels 20 miles into the air.  Maybe Lego Man went up again and needed a ride back to Earth.

A Beautiful Thing

Cruising through You Tube videos, I stumbled across something truly remarkable.  No words are adequate to describe this, so I present it to you, humble viewer.  Make whatever judgments you will.

Engage!

Waldo: The New chuck Norris!

Thanks to my wonderful husband for finding this and showing it to me.  I laughed so hard!

This is for everyone who remembers spending their childhood searching for Waldo.  You'll never look at that red and white striped shirt and hat the same way again.

Geeks and Nerds

The terms "geek" and "nerd" are often used interchangeably, though there's a definite difference in meaning.  I stumbled across this video on You Tube, and I feel like this really speaks to the issues that my husband and I find ourselves arguing about.  He loves computers and video games, while they confound me.  But hey, before you judge me, at least I like Star Wars!  If I didn't, I don't think my husband would have been able to look past that.  It's his favorite thing in the universe!

Anyway, enjoy.
