ROBOTS!

Thank you George Takei for sharing this on Facebook.  Wall-E is the new Waldo.  It is now my desktop background and brings me much happiness.

How many ways are there to classify these?  Well, too many to count, probably.  Here are some ways that have come to mind, but this is by no means an inclusive list.

  • cartoon vs. live action robots
  • movie vs. T.V. robots
  • by era (decades shown or time period of show featuring them)
  • genre (sounds obvious, but Tom Servo from MST3K is comedy; Bender from Futurama, a comedy; Kryten from Red Dwarf, which is sci fi and comedy)
  • by size, shape, or color
  • by function
  • humanoid vs. non-humanoid robots
Can any of you think of additional ways to classify them?  Or maybe point out one of your favorite robots.

Liking George Takei on Facebook has its advantages.  To give you a laugh, I'm here to share some of the humor that he's shared with the world.

The Tesla Gun

Science fiction inspires all sorts of magnificent things.

The man in this video built a gun using a Tesla coil.  This gun can shoot out up to 20,000 volts of electricity.  Trust me, it's cool.  And the music in the video is kind of fun too.

Neil deGrasse Tyson Gets Down With the GIFness!

Here's an interesting interview with who is clearly becoming one of the most popular astrophysicists in the world, Neil deGrasse Tyson.

And here's a clip where he discusses the strange nature of his popularity.

Also for your amusement is one of the many GIFs that Tyson has floating around of him.  Look, he's dancing!

And here's a link if you're interested in the paper dolls that Tyson was talking about.  Dang, scientists are getting popular.  Cool!

Dr. Who Comic Relief

Here's a Dr. Who special, entitled "The Curse of Fatal Death."  This was done to benefit Comic Relief.  Rowan Atkinson plays the Doctor, or at least one of them.  You'll undoubtedly recognize some of the others.

This is worthwhile for any Whovian to watch.  Or, just anyone really.

Star Wars Day 2012!

As some of you may know, or may not know for that matter, today is Star Wars Day!  "May the fourth be with you" is popping up everywhere geeks dare to go.  And with the recent arrest of Obiwan Kenobi for hit and run,  it's obvious that Star Wars still has a loyal legion of fans, even when they're not the most law abiding citizens.  But remember, the Rebels were lawbreakers too.  Of course, they did so in order to fight evil, so it's not the same as hit and run, now is it?

How should loyal friends celebrate this day?  There are a number of suggestions available, but the obvious choice of watching the saga for the millionth time is always acceptable.  It's just good to have the excuse, isn't it?

Star Wars Music Video

Love or hate the music, and the comments on eBaums World have been heated, I think this video is notable for the editing techniques alone.  I don't know where the idea came from, or how much time it took, there's some talent here.  Go check it out here.

And though I don't particularly like the song (nor do I generally like songs of this type with only a few exceptions), I found myself dancing to it by the end. There's my embarrassing confession for the day.
